Infrared cameras translate the warmth signatures of objects into shades on the gradient scale, with higher temperatures showing as lighter hues, and decreased temperatures and moist places appearing as darker colours.  Often known as thermal imaging and thermography, IR engineering captures the light that exists just exterior the obvious spectrum.
